The Decision
Lately I’ve been ignoring this blog due to sightseeing and trying to make a big decision. There has been a lot going on these past few months and I will have to get back on that but for now my big decision…
Do I stay here or head on out? The decision might be a little easier to make if it were that easy to transfer schools in this country. The biggest problem I have is the so called “donations” that the universities around here ask for. Hmm, maybe they should look up the official definition for “donation”. Asking for US$10,000 upfront along with your application like the University of Santo Thomas does, doesn’t sound much like a “donation” to me. Sounds more like a new car for one of those Dominican priest. I’m a former Dominican alumni, they should cut me some slack. Anyway, just about every school here does the same thing however, there is one school that isn’t asking that much. Cebu Doctor’s College of Medicine! My savior… kind of. Well it’s my only choice really.
CDU is asking only for about $500, something I might be able to pay however, unlike Perpetual Crap they are under another system. In CDU they are under the PBL (Problem Based Learning) system so most of the time students are left to study on their own. Basically Perpetual Crap is under the PBL system as well but no one else knows about it. Anyway, because officially CDU is PBL and PC is traditional there is some discrepancies in the curriculum as outlined in the email that CDU sent me.
Our Medical Education Unit has gone over your documents. The following are your deficiencies:
1. First Year level
1.1. Research in Medicine I (21 hours)
1.2. Pedagogy and Andragogy; The Filipino Family; Domestic and Family Violence (36 hours)
1.3. Reproductive System (108 hours)
1.4. Patient-Doctor Relations I
1.4.1. Leopold's Maneuver (12 hours)
1.4.2. Eye Examination (12 hours)
2. Second Year level
2.1. Research in Medicine II (35 hours)
2.2. Integumentary System (35 hours)
2.3. Special Senses (35 hours)
2.4. Reproductive System (105 hours)
2.5. Patient-Doctor Relations II
2.5.1. Labor, Delivery, Abnormal Pregnancy
2.5.2. Eye Examination
It will be very difficult even to start at our Second Year level because there are First Year level topics that you have not taken. Your options are: 1) to transfer to a school that uses the traditional curriculum, or 2) start as a First Year student with us.
Crap on me! Damn, I don’t want to stay in this perpetual hell any longer but two years over again? Part of me just wants to go home… now! But the other part is just wondering if I take what looks like the quickest route back home will it really get me anywhere in the end?
